I wrote this during my first trip to Haiti five years ago as Pastor Gilbert gave Debby, Jason, and me a driving tour of Port-au-Prince. I fell in love with Haiti that week. Some may choose to dwell on the negative aspects of a third world country, but that is not what I see when I think of Haiti. I see an inspiring history full of tragedy and triumph. Lush banana and mango orchards growing in spite of the infamously depleted soil. Sandy beaches and blue-green waters. But what stands out the most is the people. Strong people who have endured hardship and loss with dignity. Tenacious people who work hard to survive and to improve their lives. Persevering people who have slowly rebuilt their communities after the devastation that occurred 8 years ago today. Generous people who share their skills, knowledge, and wisdom in hopes of positively impacting the future and who welcome strangers who want to partner with them in that endeavor- however imperfect our attempts may be. People I am blessed to call friends. This is the Haiti I know. #thisishaiti #beautifulhaiti #haiti #haitimissions #missionarystories #ilovehaiti
